Art I'm Lovin'

At the Armory Antiques show, I collected a few business cards of the galleries that really impressed me. I saw hundreds of paintings that I wanted to incorporate in future make-believe interior design projects for school, as well as stuff I'd love to own in my own make-believe two-story Brooklyn brownstone with my make-believe bulldog, Macho.

Here a few pieces I'm talking about from Gary Rubinstein Antiques and Rumi Galleries...

Spring Break!

The time is upon us! Spring Break is here! Get out your shot glasses and your sunblock!

Ok, ok...so I'm not really going anywhere this spring break except for the library. But in my wildest fantasies, I'd be at the Barcelona Mandarin Hotel right now, relaxing in all of Patricia Urquiola's design glory.

Gold inlay ceilings reflecting the shape of the cowhide rug beneath it. Unreal!

AVENUE Antiques & Art at the Armory Show

This weekend I took a trip to the Park Avenue Armory where dealers displayed everything from paintings and fine jewelery to decorative arts and furniture. Sadly, I missed the panel discussion held by the infamous Mario Buatta and a former professor of mine, Judith Gura.

Even so, check out all the fun I had...

What was possibly even more fun than the antique show was the building itself. Seeing this building in slide form during a two hour history lecture hall is nothing like seeing it in real life.

A Bladder is Forever..

On Friday I present my design for the women's commercial bathroom of a De Beers retail space. It's a small project, but here's what I've got so far...

De Beers is diamonds. They exude brilliance, luxury and prestige. Just as their diamonds can ‘illuminate a fleeting moment and add brilliance to every memory’, so too can its retail experience...

The layout is standard; a handicap accessible commercial bathroom. On the ceiling I have created translucent square panels with lights above each, rotated and tilted at angles, replicating the idea of light hitting the prisms of a diamond.

Here are the materials I have chosen for the bathroom. I went with black, grays and white for a sleek, clean and sophisticated look. I wanted the materials to have a luster and a sharpness to them; paying homage to the company's product.

Finally, here are the elevations of the bathroom. Instead of a standard metal commercial paper towel and tampon dispenser hung on the wall, I've created custom velvet lined drawers within the vanity. I felt a custom design such as this was more appropriate for such a high end brand. Also, these drawers reference the opening of a jewelry box.

Think if I send De Beers my design I might score some free diamonds?! Wish me luck!
